We are long overdue for a network of volunteers who set up feeding stations near motion detection cameras.
I created a Facebook page called "Wild Strays of Vancouver Washington" and trying to spread the word about cats in survival mode (lots of forests around here).
I think that we need to have volunteers who can become very knowledgeable about the territory habits of local animals and train others so that they can better predict where lost pets are likely to roam or where they're most likely to hide. They seem to avoid known territories.
Cats and dogs also have homing instincts and we need to figure out how they can sense us, how we should be behaving to attract them back home.
